Works Have Started on Extending the Apron

Construction works on the extension of the apron – manoeuvring areas for aircraft parking have commenced at the beginning of the week, in line with activities planned regarding extending Sarajevo International Airport capacities. This is a phase I of the project which entails the reconstruction of the parking position 1 as well.

The existing apron is square shaped with a total surface area of  38.000 m² ( what includes a taxiway for aircraft to taxi at the apron) and it can handle up to 7 code C aircraft (aircraft whose max. wingspan is up to 36m) like Air Bus AE321, Boing B737-800 and similar.

The whole project applies to the apron extension from the existing 7 up to 4 additional aircraft parking positions, and with the project completion, the apron of Sarajevo Airport is going to have 11 aircraft parking positions for code C aircraft, and that is an increase in capacities for approx. 60%.

Except construction works in relation to asphalt and concrete foundations (concrete laying of approx. 3.500 m3 of concrete is planned), extensive electro and hydro works are going to follow the implementation of this significant project as well. The Contractor is a company Strabag ltd, and completion date of works is scheduled by the end of the current year.
