Sarajevo airport is preparing for the opening for commercial flights

A meeting organized by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of B&H was held today at SIA regarding a preparation of airport capacities for passenger air traffic commercial flights. Besides representatives of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of B&H and Sarajevo International Airport, representatives of the Institute for Public Health of Federation of B&H and Sarajevo Canton, the Federal Department for Inspection Affairs and representatives of the Federal Department for Civil Protection and the Institute of Emergency Health Care attended the meeting as well.

Representatives of an operational team of Sarajevo International Airport presented a material Set of measures for working during and after COVID-19 whose goal is to establish necessary activities indispensable for the opening of Sarajevo airport for passenger air traffic commercial flights. The material is a summary of the Programme of measures made in accordance with guidelines for the course of actions for regulators described in ICAO Doc 10144 (ICAO Handbook for CAAs on the Management of Aviation Safety Risks related to COVID-19). Cross-reference data on status and a scope of implemented measures at airports across Europe are used as the basis as well.

Measures which will be implemented for work continuation of Sarajevo International Airport imply set of general measures, set of measures for employees and measures pertaining hygiene and disinfection of the aircrafts and the premises.

General measures refer to visible notifications and information for passengers and employees, keeping social/physical distance, setting of physical barriers and/or additional personnel for monitoring at critical posts, hand disinfection, face masks and adequate disposal of the waste.

Measures for employees refer to self-protection and hygiene measures as well as to reducing the contact with passengers and cabin crew personnel. Disinfection of the aircrafts and the premises as a third set of measures will be implemented with enhanced measures, with mandatory ventilation of the premises by outdoor fresh air during working hours, using mechanical or natural ventilation. Regarding the aircrafts, the disinfection will be implemented using registered products approved by an airline company and an aircraft manufacturer. Also, there is a set of specific measures relating to catering facilities and shops which are in accordance with measures and orders in force set by Federal Committee of Civil Protection and recommendations by the World Health Organization.

Participants of the meeting expressed their satisfaction by the material and the activities which are implemented at Sarajevo International Airport and which refer to the prevention of spreading the virus and adequate preparation for the opening of the airport for air traffic commercial flights.
