On this day, back in 1969, Sarajevo International Airport was officially open for civil air traffic, after finishing the construction works that had taken more than three years.
Sarajevo airport is important for Bosnia and Herzegovina for multiple reasons. For most of tourists who come from the countries out of this region, the Airport is their first encounter with Bosnia and Herzegovina and their first impression about our country. For that reason it is important to make this picture positive and we have been more than successful in it due to dedication of all employees.
Sarajevo airport has been recording its boom in recent couple of years, with continuous increase of number of passengers and air traffic operations. At the end of last year, Sarajevo International Airport recorded its millionth passenger, thus preparing itself in exceptionally convenient way for celebration of its 50 anniversary.
Nowadays Sarajevo International Airport is a reputable company which constantly invests in its future development, what was recognized by many airlines so that we have been connected to a large number of European and world cities. Last year Sarajevo International Airport had over a million passengers, what is the record figure in its history.
We are facing the 50th anniversary in a working atmosphere in the true meaning of the word. Namely, we are in the process of reconstruction, extension and enlargement of all airport facilities, both in terms of space and technology, what will provide for additional 10.000 m2. Upon completion of the works the Airport will significantly increase its efficiency and upgrade the level and quality of the services we render to our business partners and users. The entire reconstruction is aimed at upgrading the quality of services and business atmosphere, i.e. creation of a modern business environment being in accordance with European and international trends and most recent technological achievements.
From 1969 till today a lot of employees worked here till retirement. I wish a happy anniversary both to them and all of us, as well as many future business achievements, another million of passengers, new air services and a bigger range of our services.
