New navigational procedure for aircraft landing formally presented at Sarajevo International Airport

    Today at Sarajevo International Airport a new navigational procedure for aircraft landing was formally presented.
    Introduction of this procedure is an important move not only for Sarajevo International Airport but also for Bosnia and Herzegovina which now belongs to the countries that use a global system of satellite navigation as a source of navigational signal.
    The introduction of the procedure resulted from dedicated and mutual efforts of all the parties being involved in this project: including the carrier, flydubai, aviation services provider NATS from Great Britain which designed the procedure, BiH Agency for provision of aviation services, Sarajevo International Airport, and the Directorate for Civil Aviation of BiH that gave approval for introduction of this procedure.
    Director of the Sector for air traffic and aviation services of Sarajevo International Airport, Mr. Nermin Zijadić, briefly explained major advantages of the procedure, including: enhance safetydecreased number of delays, crowds and traffic jams at airports, as well as increased capacity of air traffic, what directly reflects on its efficiency.
    “PBN promises economic benefits, too. For example, the airport in Atlanta improved its operations due to this procedure what resulted in significant economies of fuel, i.e. 34 million US$ a year”, said Zijadić.
    The guests were addressed by Safety Manager of BiH Agency for provision of aviation services, Mr. Vlado Jurić.
    “SARAJEVO (LQSA) RNAV (GNSS) RWY 12” is the first procedure of this type implemented in BiH and it will enable approach for landing of an aircraft even in case of a failure of the ground navigational equipment, and thus directly contribute to increased availability and provide for continuity of operations at Sarajevo International Airport”, said Jurić.
    Dubai-based flydubai was the first aircraft that landed at Sarajevo International Airport today in accordance with the new procedure.
