Get Airports Ready for Disaster – GARD

In order to boost resistance to future natural disasters, Deutsche Post DHL group and UN Development program (UNDP) organizes the workshop called “Get Airports Ready for Disaster – GARD“ to be held in Sarajevo on September 24 - 28. In addition to representatives of Sarajevo International Airport, participants of the workshop include also representatives of BiH Ministry of security, Ministry of communication and traffic, army force and other administrative agencies, as well as experts at humanitarian activity.
Four-day training and assessment program will result in preparation of an action plan in case of disaster which is adjusted to particular needs of Sarajevo International Airport.
Purpose of this workshop is to boost resistance to future natural disasters (floods, land-slide sites, earthquakes, heat waves, droughts and fires), in which airports have a major role in transport of aid teams and goods being delivered to needy people.
Sarajevo International Airport is a very important airport in case of a natural disaster.
Armin Kajmaković, general director of Sarajevo International Airport emphasized importance of adequate infrastructure and efficient administrative procedures in order to enable quick and effective delivery of the aid from Sarajevo International Airport to affected areas. "In addition to assessment of the Airport’s buildings and improvement of employees’ skills, this workshop will result in a lot of activities that include preparation of the action plan to be used for our better readiness in case of natural disasters", said Kajmaković.
"We genuinely support cooperation with all institutions having responsibilities in case of a disaster so that we could improve our response in case of need."
During the program, attendees and trainers will make assessment of the existing level of readiness at Sarajevo International Airport, conduct training exercises and prepare specific recommendations and a custom-tailored action plan that will enable Sarajevo Airport to get ready for a possible natural disaster in the future.
