Simulation of armed attack and hostage crisis at Sarajevo Airport

    At Sarajevo International Airport was performed a teaching-demonstrative exercise, simulating an armed attack and hostage crisis.
    The exercise was aimed at practice of managing and executive staff in resolving a crisis, testing adopted regulations, plans and procedures pertaining to this kind of crisis, as well as practising the communication system and coordinating the activities among persons in charge.
    It should be stresses that this is an annual exercise of BiH Armed forces and bodies for implementation of BiH and EUFOR laws in in which the parties practice together within a realistic scenario in order to test their emergency plans.
    The exercise named "Fast response 2018" also tested EUFOR ability to bring in their reserve forces as reinforcements and support to local authorities, bodies for implementation of laws and Armed forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina in keeping safe and stable environment.
    Participants in this international exercise include the EUFOR Multinational battalion, reserve forces from Austria, Bulgaria, Italy, Romania and the United Kingdom, as well as the Tactical reserve battalion from NATO forces deployed in Kosovo. The exercise also included anti-bomb team of the Border Police Unit at Sarajevo Airport, employees of the Sector for security and protection and the Sector for Air Traffic and aviation services of Sarajevo International Airport, Rescue and Fire service and Ambulance service at Sarajevo Airport, SIPA Special support unit, OSA, etc.
    The State Crisis Team was summoned for the exercise and it gave approval to Police agencies to start solving the hostage situation. The meeting was attended by BiH Minister of Security, Dragan Mektić, Commander of EUFOR ALTHEA, Major-General Martin Dorfer, Minister of traffic and communications BiH, Ismir Jusko, director of OSA, Osman Mehmedagić, director of SIPA, Perica Stanić, director of BiH Border Police, Zoran Galić, prosecutor of BiH Public Prosecutor's Office, Diana Kajmaković, representatives of BHANSA, BHDCA, Ministry of foreign affairs BiH, Administration for coordination of Police agencies in BiH, etc.
    On behalf of Sarajevo International Airport, attendees to the meeting of the Emergency HQ were the director, Armin Kajmaković, executive director for air traffic and aviation services, Elvedin Begić, and director of Security Sector, Senad Malić.
    All scheduled activities in case of emergency were taken, including release of necessary communications, session of relevant teams, informing relevant services and institutions, as well as issuing of necessary instructions.
    The exercise was evaluated as successful.
